We celebrate the success of third-party forest certifications.
Certifications from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Forest Stewardship Council are the most secure way of knowing that paper was made responsibly. Our goal is to help more forest owners achieve certification thereby protecting the long-term health of the forest and our ability to make certified papers for you.
Finch was the first integrated paper mill in the US to receive the Forest Management and Chain-of-Custody certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council. We have also earned both certifications from the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program.
The Forest Management certification attests that Finch foresters’ management of lands owned by The Nature Conservancy and other private landowners meets FSC’s stringent environmental and social standards for responsible forestry.
The Chain-of-Custody (COC) certification attests that all of the wood used to make the certified paper comes from responsibly-managed forests. The wood is tracked from the forest, through the pulping process, to the paper mill, then on to the merchant and printer. To receive approval, the project must be printed by a certified printer who in turn purchases the paper through a certified printer. The printer secures approval for the logo usage and places the logo on the final file.
If you are unable to use a FSC or SFI certified printer, you may make this general statement about Finch Paper: “The wood fiber used to make this paper is independently certified to come from responsibly managed forests.”
FSC: The Forest Stewardship Council is an international organization committed to environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of the world’s forests. The FSC has established an exacting series of principles and standards for responsible forest management, and a distinguished roster of certifying organizations has been approved by FSC to evaluate and certify forest managers, paper and wood products manufacturers, distributors and printers.
