Section 480-a of the New York State Real Property Tax Law provides qualifying forest owners with as much as an 80-percent reduction in assessed value, provided the landowner commits to keeping his/her land as forested space for a minimum of 10 years and follows a forest management plan prepared by a forester and approved by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
